Government Abolishes All Taxes and Duties on the Import of 350,000 Tons of Sugar

Islamabad – The government has exempted all import taxes and duties on the import of 350,000 tons of sugar.

A key meeting of the Steering Committee, chaired by Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research Rana Tanveer Hussain, was held to review the availability, quality, price stability, and import mechanisms of sugar in the country.

In the meeting, it was decided that immediate measures will be taken to prevent a potential shortage of sugar and unnecessary price hikes, in order to provide relief to the public and maintain market stability.

It was also decided that sugar will be imported through the Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP) to ensure transparency, quality, and government control.

To ensure affordable and quality sugar in the market, an urgent import strategy has been prepared. Initially, a tender for 200,000 tons will be issued, followed by a second tender for 150,000 tons.

To facilitate this process, the government has abolished all import taxes and duties.
